Baywind Community Trust meets three times a year to grant funding for energy, education and community welfare in Furness area. In the past year we have given grants of over £12k, including £1.5k for Forest Schools projects at St Marys, Ulverston and Our Lady’s Dalton, £500 for support for the Community-led Village Plan in Pennington parish, refurbs at Lindal Buccleuch Hall, £2.1k, and Swarthmoor Reading Room £3k, sports equipment at Kirkby £1.7k. This year we have also promised sponsorship for the Community Chat newsletter at Pennington and funding solar PV panels on the roof of Dalton Community Association.
Extra funding from the windfarm at the re-powered site at Harlock Hill, now called High Winds Energy Society, has started this year, increasing for the next decade. Applications can be sent to Energy4All office in Barrow, or to me at Red Gables, Beckside, Pennington LA12 7NX. BWECT will consider any bids, from £200 for home energy improvements, eg more efficient boilers, to major projects like the Dalton Drill Hall. It may also be possible to provide long-term core funding for local organisations meeting funding criteria. We hope to spread the benefits as widely as possible, so talk to us about your funding needs, and if you wish to be involved in the Trust, enquiries will be welcome, especially from younger residents.
